Isolation Dampers

Halton & Flamgard Isolation and Retention Dampers for Demanding Applications

High integrity gas retention dampers are used for containing fire-extinguishing gases such as CO2 and FM200 within a ventilation or air-conditioning system during fire situations. They have a similar design to volume control dampers with additional seals to minimise leakage.

When actuated – electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic – gas retention dampers prevent movement of gases which are deployed to evacuate oxygen and effectively extinguish the fire, this assists the building systems – alarms, sprinklers etc. – and the fire authorities to ensure safe escape and to minimise fire damage.

Volume Control Dampers

Halton & Flamgard Volume Control Dampers

Ducting systems must often provide a method of adjusting the volume of air flow to various parts of the system. High integrity volume control dampers (VCDs; not to be confused with smoke/fire dampers) provide this function. Besides the regulation provided at the registers or diffusers that spread air into individual rooms, dampers can be fitted within the ducts themselves.

These dampers may be manual or automatic. Zone dampers provide automatic control in simple systems while variable air volume (VAV) allows control in sophisticated systems.

Pressure Relief & Non-Return Dampers

Halton & Flamgard Pressure-Relief and Non-Return Dampers

Pressure dampers are used to control pressure levels in adjacent zones/areas. They are selected and installed to maintain a higher pressure than surrounding areas to prevent the ingress of hazardous gases. They are typically used in escape routes – fire fighting stairwells etc. – to assist in safe escape and to help the authorities deal with the emergency.

Backdraft dampers are used to prevent recirculation of ventilation air. Particularly useful as a low
cost solution to prevent air recirculation through an idle standby fan of a duty and standby ventilation fan configuration.

Weather Louvres & Mist Eliminators

Halton & Flamgard Weather Louvres and Mist Eliminators also known as Droplet Separators

A weather louvre is a passive device, essentially a grille fixed over an opening, designed to let air through and keep water out. It is designed to the same standard as our other high integrity dampers and performs both these functions simultaneously. Its suitability for a particular application is determined by how effectively it achieves these functions in combination.

Droplet separators are used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to remove moisture droplets from air streams before they are distributed in a building, ship or used in industrial processes. This helps to maintain indoor air quality, prevent condensation, and protect HVAC components.

Tunnel Dampers

Halton & Flamgard Tunnel Dampers

Flamgard Calidair’s tunnel dampers are rigidly designed and are used to regulate the airflow in transit tunnels. They ensure that the air that is circulating through the tunnel is safe for passenger transit, without excessive build up of exhaust gases. In normal conditions, tunnel dampers control the volumetric air flow in a transit tunnel.

In emergency fire conditions, it is essential that the dampers are there not only for ventilation, but to regulate the fire and the associated smoke and hot gases. Fires in tunnels generate severe smoke which, if not reliably ventilated, could cause those in the tunnel to suffer the life-threatening effects of smoke inhalation. Tunnel dampers can be used in emergency conditions to operate to extract these toxic fumes and smoke away from the critical area as well as providing a fire barrier when closed.

CFD-02TM – High temperature tunnel damper

Flamgard type CFD-02T High Temperature Tunnel Damper has been designed for bolting directly onto walls and floors or bolting or welding to steel support frames. The damper has been successfully tested and operated up to 400ºC for 2 hours. To ease installation these dampers can be supplied with pre-drilled flanges and mounting frames.
